I was first time user of AWS service and just created redshift and then did not close it so and end of the month bill was 5 lakhs and now I have deleted the amazon account will I be charged still
That sounds like a very stressful situation — let's clarify what happens next.
Key Points:
-
If You Deleted Your AWS Account Properly:
-
If you closed the AWS account (not just deleted services), Amazon should not charge you further.
-
When an AWS account is officially closed, AWS:
-
Stops all resources.
-
Finalizes the billing.
-
Sends a final invoice (which may include unpaid charges).
-
-
-
However, You Are Still Liable for Existing Charges:
-
Even if you've closed the account, you are still responsible for charges incurred before the closure.
-
If the Redshift cluster ran for a long time (especially a provisioned cluster), that could easily result in a very high bill.
-
-
What You Can Do Now:
-
Contact AWS Support Immediately (via the AWS Support Center). Even with a closed account, you can contact them.
-
Explain your situation clearly — mention that you're a first-time user and this was unintentional.
-
AWS has been known to waive or reduce charges for first-time mistakes, especially if:
-
The usage was unintentional.
-
You're not a business or enterprise customer.
-
It’s a one-time issue.
-
-
-
If the Account Was Not Closed Properly:
-
If you simply deleted Redshift but did not close the account, AWS might keep charging for other services, or even for Redshift if any storage (e.g. snapshots) was left behind.
-
Double-check that the account is fully closed.
